The 183,700 SF campus for the Los Angeles LGBT Center spans more than a city block in Hollywood: affordable housing for seniors and young adults, 100 beds for homeless youth, a senior center, a youth academy, retail, administrative headquarters, and cultural event space. Before design, the work was strategic: reconciling the spatial and operational needs of programs serving people at every stage of life into a single coherent organization. A public plaza and a sequence of courtyards unify the campus with The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, creating a porous, pedestrian-oriented urban block. The result is a new typology for community-based development, an intergenerational LGBTQ+ campus that integrates social, cultural, and institutional life.
