| Stimulator - P.S.1. Warm Up | New York, NY USA | 2009 | Invited Competition | Cultural | 8200 sq. ft. |
Established in 2000, the Young Architects Program was designed to solidify the affiliation between MOMA and P.S.1. Contemporary Art Center. The objective of the project is to provide visitors with an outdoor recreational area for the summer, making the best use of the pre-existing space and available materials.
We propose a new attitude toward excess. The Stimulator questions the relationship between the past culture of excess-as-waste and the relentless consumption of resources — a counter-intuitive model that actively generates resources rather than just consuming them.
Excess = Resource => MASSiveness
We propose a MASSive accumulation of “resources” for redistribution.
The installation is constructed of a reusable resource: nominal lumber. The excessive accumulation of this resource becomes a reservoir of potential energy to stimulate projects and economies beyond P.S.1.
